A FICHE Tale

The History of our Support Group

Fellowship of Independent Christian Home Educators was founded on June 28, 2013 during a meeting at the Blanchard Public Library.  It was created by and for the many families desiring to have a homeschool group offering Christian fellowship with other home educators in our area.  FICHE, pronounced “fish”, was founded through the vision and calling of nine couples.  Our FICHE Founders are Bob and Michelle Dugas, Neal and Jennifer Dunn, Darrel and Terri Hanner, Jason and Christy Maddox, Matt and Theresa Miles, James and Heather Miller, Bill and Jennifer Smith, Gary and Donna Pearn, and Jeff and Sonda Wilson. These couples gave of their time and other resources to create the wonderful group that we all now enjoy.

FICHE began with about 40 families in the fall of 2013 and ended the year with 58 families. Over 30 of those families chose to participate in our co-op classes during the first year.  The Lord blessed us with a beautiful facility to meet in each week and over 40 exciting classes for our children.

FICHE was privileged to be allowed to use the facilities of four local churches for our activities and events throughout the first year. Our families participated in field trips, History Night, Capitol Day, Mother/Son Dinner, Land Run, junior and senior class gatherings, and many more activities.  We even created a yearbook to commemorate our first year.  FICHE ended our first year with a graduation ceremony for our seniors.

The Lord has truly blessed our new group and we hope and pray that our first year is just a taste of His blessings yet to come as we continue to follow Him.  This is the brief history of our support group, but in reality, the history of FICHE is yet to written!
